Communications Ministry

COMMUNICATIONS: Is the means by which lifelong
Christian Formation takes place. It is a deliberate and ongoing commitment to educate and stimulate so that all persons may experience transformation. Jesus conversed with the Scribes and Pharisees. He preached and taught in the Synagogue and temple. He taught His disciples (communicate with). The Epistles, Gospels and other books of the Bible are all efforts to reveal (communicate) the Word of God to us.

Theological basis for Communication Ministry:
Acts 2:42 They continue steadfastly in the Apostles’ doctrine and fellowship.
Acts 4:8-20 Peter filled with the Holy Ghost, said, “Ye rulers of the people and elders of Israel...For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.”
Luke 2:39-52 (46”...they found him in the temple sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them and asking them questions.”

Goals:

  • To create an awareness of the importance of the Communication Ministry for every member of the Church.
  • To provide opportunities for members to participate in the review of information and to assist with its dissemination in various ways.
  • To explore new avenues in time to rapid technological change to provide quality educational experiences on a regular and systematic basis and in a compelling way.
  • To speak on issues and have meaningful dialogue on issues of public good and national importance, and to speak out against injustices in society.

HOW DO WE ATTAIN THESE GOALS?

  • Select/Elect/Harness Leader and Team to lead/direct/coordinate.
  • Whether we ELECT or SELECT a leader, it is incumbent that the person be capable and willing to accept the responsibility that the leadership entails and be goal oriented.
  •  It would be the ideal situation if the leader was a current member of the vestry (remembering that at least one member of the vestry shall serve on the Standing Committee – which included the Ministries of Diocese 2000 and Beyond – who shall report to the Vestry. (See Regulation 37 Sec. 12).
  •  The Leader/Chairperson of the Ministry should have a TEAM to assist him/her to lead/direct/coordinate the efforts/works/whatever it needs/takes to attain goals.
  • A good leader motivates a good team and leads it to glory. A good team crown its leader with glory.
  • Investigate and assess the needs.

Why do we need Communications?

To record/make CD’s or tapes of Services/Hymns/Sermons etc., For the distribution to the sick and shut-ins/to make them available to the wider community, even if for a fee.
